before the party came balloon day

we've been hyping up the big birthday for quite awhile. Trying to get her pumped up for the big day; practicing making a wish, blowing out imaginary candles, knowing she's now twwwooooo...the works.
Buuut how was she going to wake up on Friday and know it's her actual birthday? I'm fairly certain she has no concept of days or weeks, let alone dates.

In the madness of planning, I picked up some 30+ balloons. Next to bubbles, balloons are her favorite thing. My plan was to blow up the balloons and toss them in her room. She'd wake up to a balloon haven. I was fairly certain that waking up to a room full of balloons, she'd know that the day was special. What would your equivalent be to waking to morning bliss? Fresh hot coffee? Breakfast in bed? Flowers? I'm still thinking of mine....

Anyway, this first vid is of her waking up and seeing the balloons for the first time. I broke up the recordings into 1-2 minutes a piece. I didn't think you'd be that interested in watching 10mins of her tossing up balloons in the air and saying "oook mommmy, o'er there!"...you can tell she's just waking up in the first one because she's not talking much. The second, she's warming up & calling in the dog. You know it's serious when the dogs involved. I haven't gotten the others up on youtube and frankly, you'd be bored to tears by the 3rd anyway.

This is the smile of a fresh out of bed 2 year old celebrating her birthday morning with balloons.

Aaaaacckk! I have a two year old!

The Moment

I had it. The ohmygod, 'I'm pregnant' moment. I was running around yesterday morning getting last minute details done for the afternoon birthday party. In my grubbiness, I passed a mirror and did a double take at the reflection staring back at me. It happened. I'm pregnant.

There is no hiding the belly any longer. It's here to stay (and get bigger).

The proof:
yowza! This popped overnight. 24w4d

Front fuzzy view.

...and this is how I feel at the end of the day...

The party was a success! Pictures will follow soon, my bud KLP manned the camera. Hopefully, she'll share a snippet or two soon. I'll be sure to do the party post asap :)

Labor Day & 24

Happy 2nd Labor Day to me!

For those not in the know, labor day is my day to celebrate the anniversary of going into labor/birth of my babes. After all, 16 hours of active labor for F shouldn't go unnoticed, right? I don't know exactly how long I'll hold that one over hear head, maybe forever (?), I guess it'll depend on how well behaved she is as a teen. What better way to parent than to hold each minute of labor over her? bwwahahaha. 16hours is a loooong time!

Anyhow, I toasted the first anniversary of labor day last year with champagne. Sadly this year, I can't continue my bubbly tradition BUT have no fear, 2011 will bring not just one but TWO labor days to celebrate! How exciting!

Onto BD, all is well. I'm in my last week of the 5th month which means Deuce will be larger than the largest papaya. :O Can I be 6months pregnant already?! Where have the days gone?

I've got my glucose tolerance test under my belt - that drink is icky - assuming all is quiet on the western front at my appointment next week, I'll be on my way to Greece. I'm so excited I can't see straight.

random thoughts

What a weekend!

The dreaded P-bomb was dropped Friday. Breathing treatments every 4hours, antibiotics - oh, did I mention that pneumonia = fighting bedtime and sleepless nights? oh yeah, we went into Friday off ~9hours total sleep for the week. As soon as we got some meds she (and we) started getting a bit more rest. Tonight was the first night she went down without a fight in over a week. (!!!!!!!) She's on the road to getting better, woohoo! Thank you all for your thoughts and well wishes. They are helping!

AND she got the green light to start swim class as scheduled next Tuesday....woohoo! Pneumonia has nothing on this kid.

Even sicky, she's a trooper & a cute trooper at that.

We enjoyed some super fab family time with the extendeds Saturday night celebrating March birthdays! F was excited to be included and helped blow out the candles on an extra large cupcake. :) She's loving up on this birthday stuff. I can't believe she's going to be 2 on FRIDAY!

Speaking of, I've got 4 days to get her party squared away! Aye. I've got a list but not much checked off. I've got a busy busy day ahead of me tomorrow :)

I got my first pregnant stranger comment Sunday at brunch, apparently I'm showing more than I think. I am nearly 24weeks, so it should be expected. Right? The server asked if it was a girl or boy. I was sitting there next to Fal all gussied up in a hot pink dress. I must have given her the most confused blank stare because OBVIOUSLY she is a girl. She shook her head and asked again pointing to her belly. ::smacking forehead & nervous giggle:: oh! we don't know, was all I could muster. Totally unexpected.

With that, I'm off to bed.

pneumonia sucks

it struck again.

what a bummer. starting sunday, she was waking in the middle of the night screaming. inconsolable screaming. no one got rest this week. x-rays came back this morning, positive. back on breathing treatments, antibiotics for the next 5 days. sucks!

just cause we're showoffs

today we had hit up the library for story time, picnicked in the front yard and shared a scoop of strawberry ice cream :) what? how else are we supposed to tolerate this spike in weather? cheese and rice it was hot today. like shweaty hot. plus if we're going to be dealing with earthquakes, the least we can do is indulge in a scoop of ice cream. anyone else awake at 4 this am? not the best way to wake on a tuesday morn.

the big sis sporting nap time bedhead and sun screened up but seriously the cutest damn kid. ever. (she even let me put her comb over in a pony!)

eye boogs and all, the gunmaster is an attractive dude himself.

and moi. 22w 5days - told ya my belly has grown considerably.

i'd say today was a productive day :)

I'm quite the catch

and I'm real modest. Really modest, in fact. I could provide you a list of my catch-worthy qualities but I'm feeling kinda lazy tonight so I'll spare your gag reflexes. Instead, I'll outline my Saturday to prove my conceited point.

Brunch plans were canceled last minute. The weather was okay but too chilly to hop on the bike and take F to the beach for a bit like I promised when we woke up to sunshine. Instead, this is what we did while the hubs jetted to work for the morning.

In no particular order:
baked fresh pretzel bread. yummy yum yum
blew bubbles - always a fave
laundry - ugh
play-doh session - !!!!
scrubbed the wood floors - meh
growing a Baby Deuce in my belly - 22w 3d :)
living room dance off - we've got moves
filled the nail holes in the dining room baseboards for painting - I'm handy like that

From Suzy Homemaker to Bob(bie) Villa in a mere few hours. Man, my hubs is a lucky guy ;)

{thump thump thump}

We're halting in the papaya range for the next few weeks. Apparently, we'll cruise through month five growing from baby papaya to super ripe papaya.

Baby Deuce (BD) is an active little beast and loooow low low. Holy shnikes. This is insanity. I was cooking dinner the other night and I swear the thumping in my pelvis was going to send me over the edge. Apparently, BD's ears are burning because I'm getting a beat down as I type.

Things are great otherwise. Keeping busy and trying to stay sane. Between the pregnancy, puppy, toddler and working I might hit the loony bin before 31 rolls around the corner.

F's 2nd birthday is just a couple weeks away, so her party is on the front burner! We've been practicing making a wish before blowing out the candles. I'm hoping I can capture it on vid to share. It's the cutest thing. Don't hold your breath, I don't want to be responsible for lightheaded readers. Vid and belly shot, on the agenda tomorrow.

silly faces...for a good cause

This weekend was jam packed with excitement. Baby shower, birthday party, charitable donation & laundry, laundry & cleaning. I think we're ready for Spring, the deep cleaning started today.

An oldie friend is expecting her first in about a month! How exciting. Her babe and Baby Deuce will be about 3.5 months apart - YAY for future playdates!! I got home for a brief minute snugged with F and then we hopped in the car to toast to our friend D's 28th! F was a hit a the grill (of course) and held up well given the fact she was hanging with peeps 25+ years her senior. What a trooper.

We played silly face. Here's her latest:

As a household, we've made annual resolutions to better ourselves, the Earth & our community.

2009 was the year of bah-bye plastic & processed foods.

We gave up plastic bottles and (almost all) processed foods. The bottles were surprisingly easy fix. Klean Kanteen quickly filled the shoes of our bottling needs. Papa bear, mama bear and baby bear sizes are perfect. Used daily. Mama bear's size conveniently doubles its value by its capability of housing a full bottle of wine. Perfect for picnics and music in the park during the summer months. Currently only supplying the clear stuff, it'll be ready for the line up come the second half of the summer :) Cutting out processed foods was much easier than I thought. It helps to follow a dozen blogs on Green Living with oodles of ideas on how to make your life cleaner. I haven't found a good sub for crackers & cereals yet. Although steel cut oats are a morning time fave but it's not a daily fix. It's been fun to challenge ourselves in areas that we never put a second thought to before.

On 2010's agenda: support local businesses/farms, cloth diapers for Baby Deuce, up our charitable volunteering/donations.

So far, we've added buying local and organic to our weekly shopping list. Farmers markets and local farms have some of the most amazing veggies and fruits available. I've had some hits and missssses in my cooking attempts though. Thankfully, there have been fewer misses than hits. AND the hits have been grand slam homers.
A tip from me to you. Toss the green leaves/stock of leeks. They don't cook like the tops of green onions. In fact, they have nothing in common even though it might appear otherwise. Trust me. EEk, that mistake will only happen once.

Yup, we're cloth diapering (CD) the newest babe. I've started my stash and am super excited to take the plunge. I've got lots of CDing to talk about. I'll save it for a new post.

Back to this weekend. We just wrapped up our commitment to the Give a Day, Get a Day with Disney. We had annual passes for quite awhile and let them go during F's first year. Life was too busy and we didn't get enough use out of them. Since the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is requested often by name as of late, what better way to get involved first? We got hooked up with Binky Patrol - an organization we could relate to in more ways than one. Fleece blankies/binkys/lovies for kids 0-18 that are either in long term hospital or foster care. F has 2 special blankies and little buddies she can't live without. Giving the gift of comfort to these ones less fortunate than her was an amazing feeling.

Started with hitting the local Joann's for the perfect patterns. We did 2 teen blankets and 2 baby size...exceeding the minimum requirement by 2. I just had to have Fal included in the donation even though she technically was too young to participate.

Here's the fabric to start. Baseballs for the boy, floral for the girl & two gender neutral babies:

Measuring & cutting:

Four complete blankies ready to find a loving owner:

I am so happy we decided to participate! It's gotten my volunteering bug flying. I'm hoping to get in a few more projects in by year end. With a newborn coming this summer, it might be tight but hopefully I'll keep the motivation to get it done before July.

In other news, we're gearing up for Fal's second birthday. Two?! Already?! Holy Toledo, time is flying. She's practicing holding out her two fingers. Not quite there yet (see her pointer and middle stuck together? LOL) but oh so cute trying. Look at the following pictures by reading her lips, twoooooooo.

Have a great week!

Note to self

Dear Self,
Please don't think you can delete the flickr folders on your iphoto. It will in turn delete all the pics on your blog. Use this morning of re-uploading each blog post photo from the past couple years and burning two precious hours as a reminder. If you ever have the urge to purge, DON'T DO IT.
Best,
Self

Downhill is kinda nice...

I like a countdown rather than a counting up. 19 weeks left sounds like nothing!! Well, if I'm lucky I'll go at 38 weeks again. That would be awesome and I'd only have 17. Holy schnikes! This snowball is going to gain speed quickly.

Behold, Baby Deuce in all her/his glory!

a banana.

Baby gulps down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for hydration and nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies are most interested in tastes they've already experienced through amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you want your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.
I guess it's time to start ramping up on the spicy foods - oh, along with fruits and veggies - to get this one acclimated to my favorite foods ;) I've got a pepper belly and so does Fal. I luuuurve me some spicy noodles from a local Thai joint. Surprisingly, she love 'em, too. I didn't think much about it when I was pregnant with her but it makes sense, right?

Who knew this blog was going to be dedicated to just my pregnancy updates? Things have been busy and not all that exciting, really. I'm ready for this rainy winter to turn to sunny spring. I've got some great projects in queue that might spark more interest than the banana sized fetus I've got somersaulting in my belly.

BUT since I don't have any fun projects to share at this moment, I'll continue my pregnancy tangent. I've grown considerably in the past week. I'll get presentable for the camera this weekend and snap a pic. I can't remember if I took weekly shots with Fal and all my pics are stored on the computer that no longer turns on in our closet. ::adding take the iMac into the geeks to pull off our music and pics & pick up an external hard drive to my list:: I do know that I'm carrying so much different than her. Like this kid is kicking under the bikini line, no joke. I didn't carry this low or at least Fal had the decency to keep it above the belt. In any case, this is just another thing to add to "this pregnancy is soooo much different than the first."
