so why don't you brag about it?

Okay, I will.

As you know, the house we bought last December had fruit trees. At the time the only one that was showing off for us was the avocado. She is a beaut. The creamiest most amazing avos I have ever tasted. We (and all our friends/family/anyone that could get their paws on them) enjoyed every last one of them. Sadly, the season is over and we said goodbye until the fall.

Now that summertime is upon us, we had no idea how or what other trees listed on the mls that we'd actually get to enjoy. We were promised apples, oranges, lemon, apricot, fig and avocados.
I've never had a green thumb. I wish I had one but alas most plants that come across my path die a senseless death. It's sad and I'm trying to get better. Thankfully, all these are mature trees and almost no maintenance....
Just in the last week or so has the apricot tree blossomed. I was cruising the yard and dozens, really literally DOZENS, of apricots had already fallen to their death. This was my sign that the apricots were ready for picking :) I grabbed my trusty garden basket and shears (yup, I act the part) and got to clipping. Be very jealous. Here are our gorgeous sweet apricots.

While I was at it, I plucked a couple dozen lemons off the tree as well. YUM! I think I might try whipping up some of these or maybe these later in the week. What do you think?

Happy Daddy's Day!

I couldn't be luckier to share this crazy road called parenthood with C. He's quite possibly the greatest person I've met.
I love you babe and thank you for being the greatest Dad to our little one!

Doggie or Sibling? Or Dare I say, DogBro?

We're toying with the idea of getting a dog in lieu of having another kid.
Every other Friday, mornings are actually fun in our house. C - lucky duck - works the 9/80 so he handles what normally are my morning motherly duties. Of course, without the rush to get out the door by 8:15 to be only 15 minutes late.daily. Yes, take F out of my usual running-a-muck and the mornings are fab (I even do my hair)!
The dog idea isn't new. Looong before F we wanted a pup and that yearning hasn't left, simmered perhaps - but oh still there. C envisions the dog riding shotgun with its head out the window ears flapping - probably with Joe Walsh on the radio - me taking the backseat. Fat chance that'll happen. But I let him dream....

I tell you all the above to have a better understanding of this morning's story.

I was straigtening my hair - half in the bathroom/hallway, C was sitting at the comp and F was sitting in the hallway reading - a dog book, in fact.
We posed the question to our one year old...would you rather have a doggie or a sister or brother. She looked down at the book, looked back up at us and exclaimed "daaahhgy." So there you have it! Done and done.

Dog it is ;) We'll just have to repeat this story when she's 7 asking why she doesn't have a little sister or bro....

Floss and BS

As you may recall, baby girl isn't one of those babes that teethes with ease.
Actually now that we've rounded the molar-bend, I'm convinced that no baby sails through sprouting teeth with ease. Sure, sure you say that not one phased little Johnny, he just woke up one morning with a sparkling grill. Go on, boast again how he never woke you at the 3 o'clock hour inconsolable and shrieking in pain. Go ahead, I don't believe you.
We've tried Tylenol, teething tablets and even this and nothing has saved the nights. Nothing is more painful than not being able to comfort her. Cliche? I don't care, if I could take a bit of the pain away, I would. It's just that bad in our household. I've resorted to toothpicks holding my eyelids open and considering convincing Renee's nurses to administer a caffeine IV just to get me functioning in the morning. Do you think they'd go for it, Nae? Speaking of, here's a pic of her and F during one of our visits this weekend at Hoag. We LOVE you, Nae! Cancer doesn't stand a chance.

With the teeth comes the dentist. And for those that know me, know how important the appearance of a smile is. HUGE. It's pretty much my number one. So there is no question she will be headed in for her 6 month check ups and cleanings, starting now. I searched and found an amazing little office for the babe. She did swimmingly and the doc said her teeth are nice and strong. Although, I could have told you that. Nothing weak would keep us up night after night like these gd one-year molars. She got the clean bill of dental health, for now we've got to floss between her two bottom Chiclets (you should see that song and dance - performed twice daily) and we'll see the doc in December.

But seriously, how can you NOT love a face like this? You can't. Does it make us want to run and get knocked up all over again? Not quite (yet). Are we looking forward to more sleepless nights with a newborn again? No way. Is she worth it? ABSOLUTELY!

See! I don't lie, she's obsessed with our oranges and water.

TGIF

I woke up on the right side of the bed this morning, feeling rather content after a roller coaster ride this week. Thank you Bean for being on the receiving end of that phone call! I'm not sure why I had the need to unload at that very moment. Apparently I hit my boiling point. I found a quote that sums it up better than my diarrhea of the mouth ever will.

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect. It means that you've decided to look beyond the imperfections. ~Unknown

And with that, TGIF!
